MIDWIFE (BORNO)


MAIN PURPOSE

Provide outpatient and/or inpatient medical care to patients/beneficiaries according to adapted and updated medical knowledge, MSF protocols, values and universal hygiene standards to improve the patients/beneficiaries health conditions.


JOB DESCRIPTION (SHORTENED)

Ensure the implementation and continuity of antenatal and postnatal care, family planning, obstetrical care (BEmONC 1 and CEmONC 2), neonatal and comprehensive abortion care, management of victims of sexual violence, reproductive tract infections and Fistula care in accordance with MSF Reproductive Core Package of Activities and reinforce the implementation of standardised protocols.

Assess the feasibility for referral of pregnant women form the TBAs to the OPD/MCH for medical evaluation and/or complicated deliveries. .

Properly follow up all newborn babies from delivery until discharge, informing mothers and relatives about importance of — feeding, vaccination and possible complications resulting from harmful traditional practices.

Ensure patients’ right to privacy and confidentiality is respected ,respect medical confidentiality

Participate in the organisation of the ward in collaboration with other midwifes and the maternity ward supervisor. Ensure transfer of relevant information to the next shift team (specially identifying risk cases)

According to MSF protocols in force, conduct normal deliveries independently Manage obstetric emergencies; identify cases needing referral and send them in time, clean up the newborn, executing and registering first neo-natal medical acts (cutting and cleaning the umbilical cord, vaccination, etc.),detecting possible anomalies/infections of the newborn

Requirements


Education: ESSENTIAL MIDWIFERY QUALIFICATION OR SPECIALIZATION, REGISTERED MIDWIFE CERTIFICATION (NURSING AND MIDWIFERY COUNCIL OF NIGERIA).

Experience: Essential working experience of at least two years in midwife activities related jobs

Languages: Mission language essential (English). Local language essential (Hausa or Kanuri)

MIDWIFE (YOBE) – 2 POSITIONS

Number of Positions:  02

MAIN OBJECTIVE OF POSITION

Provides obstetrical cares according to MSF reproductive health standard, sharing expertise and knowledge with the staff involved in obstetrical activity


RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

Obstetrical activities

Carries out pre-conceptual care, antenatal care, labour and delivery, post-partum care, neonatal care

Provides specific care for HIV pregnant women and women suffering from FGM (Female Genital Mutilation)

Ensures prevention of fistula or its early management

Assists abortions in providing safe abortion services and treatment of unsafe abortion complications

Newborn Babies Follow up


Follows up all newborn babies properly since delivery and until discharge.

Informs mothers and relatives of newborns about importance of — feeding, vaccination and possible complications as a result of harmful traditional practices.

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Sexual Transmitted Infections (STI)


Ensures good quality of Prevention Parent To Child Transmission (PPTCT) and Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) activities for all pregnant women.

Provides counselling services following protocols.

Ensures that transmission by HIV or other STIs is avoided with the help of Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) and promotes the use of condoms while trying to respect local traditions.

Sexually Gender Based Violence (SGBV)


Knows SGBV protocol and provides appropriate medical cares to victims of sexual violence, according to MSF

Identifies possible victims of SGBV and refers them to medical team for treatment as well as for psychological specific support according to protocols.

Medical Equipment Management


Ensures the correct disinfection and sterilization of material, linen and premises according to MSF protocols

Organization and Team Work


Participates in the organisation of the ward in collaboration with other midwives and the maternity ward supervisor

Works in collaboration with other wards and departments staff (OT, paediatric ward, laboratory)

Reporting


Fills in properly all the registers, partograms, patient files,

Ensures relevant transfer of information to the next duty team (especially the identification of at risk cases)

Report immediately to the technical referent any problem arising for patients in the service as well as the loss/ robbery/damage of medical equipment or medicines.

Hygiene


Respects rules of hygiene for the protection of patients and staff

Knows accidental blood exposure policy and procedure, and implements when necessary.

Emergencies


Participates in emergency activity or exploratory visit in or out of the MSF area of work upon request

Others


Participating in personnel meetings


REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Essential midwifery qualification or specialization. Desired Bachelor in Midwifery and Recognized midwifery qualification.

Languages: Local languages (Kanuri, Hausa) desirable and mission language essential.  Essential working experience of at least two years in relevant jobs

Experience: Desirable experience with other NGOs

MIDWIFE ASSISTANT


MAIN PURPOSE

Assist the midwife during labour and all sexual and reproductive health activities, according to his/her instructions and MSF protocols, in order to ensure hygiene, care and comfort of all patients.


JOB DESCRIPTION (SHORTENED)

Assist the midwife during delivery and antenatal; postnatal and family planning consultations, in order to receive and install the patient, providing them the information required, helping in taking, monitoring and interpreting the parameters, etc.

Follow hygiene and safety protocols at all times, during delivery, consultations, etc., ensuring the cleanliness and tidiness of all facilities, material, linen, equipment, and carrying out the sorting and waste disposal.

Inform patients and their relatives throughout their stay.

Set up health education sessions, according to needs.

Ensure comfort of bed-ridden patients: washing, installation for eating meals, changing position, etc.

Refer to the midwife in case of any abnormal change in patient’s health status and other problems occurring.

Ensure good transfer and transport of patients between the different services and departments.

Transport samples to the laboratory and collect the results.


REQUIREMENTS

Education: CERTIFIED CHEW

Experience: WITH AT LEAST 2 YEARS EXPERIENCE IN COMMUNITY MIDWIFERY

Languages: Mission language essential (English). Local language desirable.
